Hello, my name is Adil and I am here to tell you about “Comics Around the World”. As you can probably relate, children are loosing their sense of imagination with all the technology and gaming, so I am here to bring back the culture and imagination that kids are craving. That is why I have created “Comics Around the World” and now kids can create their very own comic book, with a twist. “Comics Around the World” is a project where I will ask a class of students (about 11 to 12 years old) to continue the story from the previous page – which has been drawn by the class from the previous country. For example, students in Costa Rica will continue the story that has been designed by the class in Colombia, and so on.
The goal of this campaign is to reach like-minded people for collaboration, raise money in exchange for early access and rewards, and we also want to spread the word. The more people we can get using “Comics Around the World” the more functional and successful it will be. So this campaign will give you the basics on our efforts and progress. Beyond that we encourage you to ask us questions, donate and get involved. We developed “Comics Around the World” for your benefit, so enjoy! We believe we are really onto an easier way to get kids interested in culture and using their imagination.
When children read, write and create at a young age it is a true indicator of enthusiasm for learning, later in life. No one knows this more than I do. I am an architect, photographer and avid traveler who have been volunteering and working on the road for the last 4 years. I would like to crowdfund this kids comic book in order to promote societal involvement. I feel it is time to take my initiative to the next level by launching an international children's comic book, written of course, by the children. Because I’m a fan of comic books, I found this to be an amazing opportunity to stimulate the imagination and creativity of the kids, and fixing their schools in the same time using my architectural skills.
At this stage, I collected 20 pages from 11 different countries. I decided to continue the experience from New York to Argentina via Mexico, Cuba, Central America, Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. The whole Comic Book will be around 60 pages – 2 to 4 pages per country – if I hit my initial goal. But if I can exceed that, I’ll keep going on the road to Asia; from Indonesia to Nepal going through Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Bangladesh, India then ending in Nepal.
There is overwhelming evidence that literacy and education has a significant relationship to people's life chances. A person with poor literacy is more likely to live in a non-working household, live in overcrowded housing and is less likely to vote. – This fact prompted us to dig deeper into a solution. This is where we started to envision “Kid’s Comics” and all the possible benefits we could bring to people:
Encourage children to think, reason, question and create.
Developing awareness of other children and people in their environment.
Expressing creativity through creation.
Learning new vocabulary.
Introduction of word problem solving.
Exploration of nature concepts.
Expansion of the emotional side of the child by making him able to take comfort in familiar objects and expanding the mind by trying new things and gaining confidence from success.
Understanding a sequence of events, and grasping spatial relationships and the concept of time.
Increasing their confidence to make personal choices and share their ideas, thoughts and feelings with the group.
When reviewing these benefits and much more, it inspired and assured us that this is a program that needs to be created. We feel these features will make us incredibly qualified to succeed. This paired with attention to detail and quality service will make us the leader in the industry. Our mission is to take care of every student and parent with the upmost respect and care. We feel this will be the key to our student engagement.
My goal with this campaign is to use the money raised for the daily’s requirement of this trip, to buy school furniture to the necessary ones and by helping building or fixing the schools. The goal of this program is to get kids excited about reading, writing and develop a habit of using their imagination daily. I feel this project is a great catalyst to get started with, the book will be filled with useful and exciting information on the differences and similarities from country to country and the art will be colorful and engaging for everyone!!
This trip will be totally documented by monthly blogs, Instagram, Facebook and direct footage during the drawing classes or fixing the schools via Periscope.
We feel so grateful to everyone who has taken the time to read out campaign and for those who contributed what they could to make a difference and helping us spread the word.
